They’re the proud humans behind Ros (also known on Instagram and TikTok as Ros Adventure Cat). Today, with the help of this interview, we take a peek into the life of Ros: the cat with his own camera, an adventure-filled Instagram account, and a fanbase. We spoke to Céline & Kees about everything from training and travelling to safety and Ros’s most hilarious moments.

Sounds familiar? Then you might already know Ros

How it all started: from indoor cat to Camera star

Ros wasn’t your typical housecat. His humans adopted him through a contact where the cats were slightly feral. Ros was the only one from his litter and clearly looking for a home. What followed was no ordinary cat life. As a kitten, his journey started with small steps: short walks and brief outdoor visits under supervision.

But Ros quickly got a taste for adventure. His humans (keen on bikepacking themselves) decided to slowly train him for the big wide world not just with a harness, but also with a collar camera. That’s how Ros became not only a travel buddy, but an influencer too.

“We trained him just like you’d train a dog with clickers, voice commands, and above all: patience”

-Kees & Céline

It took some getting used to

Indoor training, clickers, voice-based rewards, the process had its ups and downs. Ros wasn’t the easiest: if he didn’t like something, you’d know it.

“He growled at the window net when he had to stay inside for a month after surgery. He was furious,” says Céline.

But curiosity always won over stubbornness. They didn’t use a tracker at first either. Now? They wouldn’t go anywhere without one.

“We cycled all the way to Cologne… without a tracker on Ros. Looking back, we’d never do that ever again.”

-Kees

Tips for training indoor cats for outdoor life

Ros was one of those cats: calm and zen inside, full-on explorer the moment a paw hit the doorstep. That balance is key if you want your cat to enjoy life outside. Céline and Kees share their step-by-step plan for owners curious whether their cat might be ready for outdoor adventures:

  • Start young – Kittens are more adaptable and learn routines faster.
  • Take small steps – Start inside, then try a short leaded walk. Take it slow.
  • Use a clicker – Combine with voice commands to encourage positive behaviour.
  • The carrier is your secret weapon – Ros sees his travel bag not as a cage, but a safe space.
  • Use a tracker – Especially for off-lead moments. It’s peace of mind.
  • Sort vaccinations well in advance – Crucial if you're travelling abroad.

“We had to get Ros vaccinated three weeks ahead or he wouldn’t be allowed into Germany. We forgot the first year 😅”

- Kees & Céline

Tree climbing and naps in bird nests

Ros isn’t just any outdoor cat : he’s a talented climber. As a kitten, he once climbed a 30-metre tree. Kees & Céline froze.

An old man passed by and said: “Tie a rag to a bike inner tube and run around the tree. He’ll think it’s a critter.” And it worked: Ros meowed his way back down.

Ros is either “on” or “off” no in-between. Indoors he’s zen, outdoors he’s on a mission

Practical tips for adventuring with your cat

Feeling inspired to take your cat on real adventures? Preparation is everything. Here’s what Céline and Kees recommend:

  • Plan vaccinations well ahead – Some countries, like Germany, require rabies jabs to be at least 21 days old.
  • Think of training as a process – It’s not a quick fix. It’s about trust, safety, and mutual respect.
  • Choose calm over pressure – Don’t force your cat. Ros always let them know what he didn’t like, and respecting that paid off.
  • Invest in a spacious carrier – When overstimulated or stressed, your cat will return to it instinctively.

“It’s important to have a carrier or travel bag that feels spacious and safe, so your cat doesn’t feel ‘trapped’ inside”

-Céline

What we can learn from Ros

Ros shows us that cats are capable of more than we often assume. What makes him special isn’t his camera or followers: it’s the bond with his humans. He doesn’t scratch, rarely bolts, and only complains when something’s really not to his liking. But with patience, training, and love, your cat could join you on life’s adventures too. It all starts with trust and respecting boundaries. That’s what Kees & Céline built with Ros.

“We pick him up and say, ‘No Ros, we’re not doing that.’ He might grumble a bit, but he accepts it,” says Céline.

Ros has also learned that his carrier isn’t a prison: it’s a retreat when things get overwhelming. And that kind of trust is gold if you plan to take your cat out into the world.

It doesn’t have to be a huge step. Start small. Learn to read your cat, respect their limits, and always offer a safe space to retreat to. Once your cat is used to it, a forest walk or a holiday together becomes something truly unforgettable.
